- Fill the applicator (dropper) until it contains 1 mL of the liquid solution. If your doctor recommends a higher dose, fill it to the prescribed volume.
- If applicable, part your hair into a few sections.
- Apply the solution to the parts of your scalp showing symptoms of hair loss or thinning, starting with the middle of these problem areas.
- Gently rub the solution into your scalp with your fingers.
- Wash your hands thoroughly.
- Let the solution sit on your scalp and dry for at least four hours.

- If you have a lot of hair, create 4-5 parts in your hair so you can see the areas of your scalp displaying hair thinning.
- Rinse your hands with cold water and dry them before handling the foam. The solution might melt in your hands if your fingers are too warm.
- Press the nozzle slowly to dispense the foam onto your fingers.
- Starting from the back to the front, apply the foam to your hair loss areas, using your fingers to spread out the solution and massage the foam into your scalp.
- Wash your hands thoroughly.
- Let the solution sit on your scalp and dry for at least four hours.
What to Do After Applying Minoxidil
You’re almost done! Now, you just have to follow a few more steps for safety and optimal results.
- Don’t use a blow dryer on the solution, even if your hair feels a little greasy. The heat might hinder the product’s effectiveness.
- Avoid bringing your scalp in contact with anything for four hours, including your pillows or hats; Minoxidil leaves stains.
- Don’t let the solution get in your eyes, nose, or mouth. If this happens, flush the solution out with water.
- Wait four hours before washing your hair or using shampoo.
