Many of our customers have told us they wish they had found their perfect solution sooner, so we’ve summed up everything you need to know about choosing a human hair wig this year to help you in your own journey.
If you’re in a state of confusion or overwhelm, this article is for you. Let’s break down the essentials and get you in your dream hair without delay.
Where do I start when choosing a human hair wig?
Whether you’re considering a Follea human hair wig or a piece from a different brand, there are some basic considerations you’ll need to consider before making your investment.
We recommend our customers consider the following basics:
Budget
Human hair wigs come in a range of price tags that are typically higher than synthetic wigs, so you’re likely to be making a significant financial investment. Establishing your budget is good practice for any purchase, but it also needs to be balanced with understanding exactly what you’re paying for: the quality of the hair, the craftsmanship, and how long the piece is likely to last.
A lower price may feel more comfortable initially, but if the wig tangles or sheds easily, feels uncomfortable to wear, or needs replacing sooner than expected, it may end up costing more in the long run.
The goal isn’t to spend as much as possible, but to find the level of quality that feels right for your needs, lifestyle, and comfort.
Appearance
Most people who wear wigs hope that it looks natural and completely undetectable. This goes beyond simply picking a length or color that matches your bio hair. Paying attention to details like the construction of the front hairline, the scalp appearance, the density, and the movement will ensure you choose a piece that aligns with your expectations.
A wig that looks beautiful on a wig stand or Instagram post may not look the same on your head. We recommend trying out different styles, taking photos in different lighting, and getting opinions from trusted family members or friends before finalizing your decision.
Fit
The way a wig fits is extremely important to how comfortable and secure it will feel throughout the day. Even the most beautiful piece can be difficult to wear all day if the cap is too tight, too loose, or doesn’t sit properly on your head.
Fit affects everything: how natural the hairline looks, how confidently you can move, and whether you’re constantly thinking about your wig or simply living your life while wearing it.
Head sizes and shapes vary, and so do wig cap sizes and constructions., so taking accurate measurements and trying different cap sizes can make a noticeable difference. If you’re new to wigs, we recommend working with a specialist who can help fit you with the right size.
Why Do Some Human Hair Wigs Cost More than Others?
If you’ve started exploring human hair wig pricing, you’ll notice that there’s a wide range of prices. At Follea by Daniel Alain we don’t shy away from the fact that we are at the top end of the scale. While we do sell wigs starting under $3,000, we are considered a luxury brand due to the quality of the hair and our craftsmanship.
Most of our human hair wig collections use European human hair. This hair type is very fine, naturally silky, and extremely rare. Most human hair wigs are made with Chinese or Indian hair which is beautiful, readily available, and cheaper to source. It also has to be heavily processed to achieve blonder/lighter colors, which damages the integrity and longevity of the hair. For this reason, many less expensive human hair wigs are prone to tangling, matting, and shedding.
The European hair we use is lightly processed to protect the strands and our wigs last between 2-4 years, and often much longer with appropriate care and maintenance.
In addition to hair quality, craftsmanship also plays an important role in determining the cost of a human hair wig. Wigs that are machine-made and mass-produced in factories will cost less than ones that are hand-crafted by skilled artisans. How Do I Choose the Right Wig Cap Size and Fit?
It’s 2026 and thankfully, these days, no matter where you live, we’re able to connect with specialists and benefit from their experience and advice through our cell phones and computers.
Many companies offer virtual consultations with experts who can help advise you in finding the right piece. Excellent consultations will involve taking accurate head measurements and finding pieces that fall within your size range.
This is the best way to find the best fit and most natural look. We don’t recommend simply buying a medium sized wig online, sight unseen, because it looked good on Instagram and you’ve always been told you have an average size head.
Working with brands who offer more than a standard S, M, and L sizing system, like Follea by Daniel Alain, also helps ensure you’ll find the perfect fit. We are convinced there are more than 3 head sizes among wig wearers, which is why we offer a range of sizes from XXXS to XL to accommodate them all.
If you prefer a more intimate consultation experience, having an in-person consultation is recommended especially if it gives you the opportunity to discuss your hair loss concerns in a private, calm atmosphere and to try on a variety of wig styles, colors, and lengths at your convenience. Please know that you don’t have to go through this experience alone and that there’s support for you if you feel lost or uncertain.
Is There Anything Else I Need To Know About Buying a Human Hair Wig?

But we want you to know that finding the perfect human hair wig can be a very exciting opportunity to say goodbye to the stress of hair loss and hello to a renewed self-confidence that comes from looking and, and most importantly feeling, like yourself.
Many of our customers feel transformed by finding the right wig, and we hope that our tips on setting a realistic budget and prioritizing fit and appearance, help you find your dream hair and set you up for your own transformation journey.
