FAQs

It is only natural that you will have questions about our products, the fit and maintenance of Follea wigs and hair enhancements. To help, we’ve listed our most frequently asked questions and answers.

Any questions that are specific to you, such as which product option is most suitable, color selection, and price can be determined by a consultation. Please complete the contact form to schedule your private consultation.

  • How do I file an insurance claim?

A wig is considered a cosmetic item, so you would need to file an individual insurance claim.  It is advisable for your hair provider to notate on your invoice that you purchased a “full cranial hair prosthesis”.

  • How long will it take to receive my order?

If we have the product you ordered in our inventory, it normally takes approximately two days from your consultation to receive your order. If we do not have the item in stock, it may take up to six weeks from your consultation appointment.

  • Will you repair my Follea hair if needed?

Depending on the product’s condition, we will repair it. The cost for repair is usually one-third the price of the wig and takes approximately six weeks to complete.

  • How long will my Follea hair last?

A Follea wig or enhancement can last between 2-4 years if you take proper care of it. Your personal certified stylist will instruct you on the proper methods of caring for your hair. It really is down to you.

  • Will the color of the hair change over time?

Since Follea wigs and enhancements are made from 100% human hair, they will react to chemicals and the environment in the same way that natural hair would. So, the color will lighten slightly over time. It’s important to consider this when re-ordering a hairpiece as even the same color may appear darker than you imagine it to.

  • Can I color the hair?

Absolutely! You can customize your Follea hair to fit your personality and lifestyle, just as you would your natural hair. For instance, you could add sunny highlights in the summer and the latest trends in hair color all year long.

  • Can I swim in my Follea hair?

Wearing your hair creation while swimming is not recommended. We advise wearing an older hairpiece or a swim cap instead.

  • Can I sleep in my Follea hair?

You should never wear your Follea hair while sleeping as it will compromise the integrity and longevity of the piece, and likely create hard-to-remove tangles. If sleeping while wearing it cannot be avoided, we encourage you to purchase a silk pillowcase for those occasions.

  • How often should I wash my Follea hair?

We recommend washing your Follea hair once every seven days or when it feels dirty and the ends do not move naturally.

  • How do I know if I have an authentic Follea product?

The labels on our products include a unique serial number, printed in black lettering on a transparent background. While there have been other formats for the serial numbers in the past, our current codes all start with the letters “FL”. The serial numbers on the labels allow us to authenticate and trace all Follea pieces.
When you receive your Follea hair, please visit the Product Registration page on our website to enter your label information so we can register the product to you and confirm whether it was issued by Follea.

  • Are Follea wigs pre-cut?

Our hair is layered and requires some styling especially around the perimeter and the bang area. We recommend that you have a skilled stylist cut and style your Follea hair to suit your face and bone structure, because a great wig deserves a great hairstyle.

  • Can I style Follea hair with hot tools?

Follea is made with 100% human hair, so hot tools will work the same as they do on natural hair. That said, it is preferable not to use hot tools daily due to the fact that added hair will not grow, and any damage you do to the hairpiece is permanent.

If you absolutely must use hot tools, the maximum heat that should ever be applied to your Follea hair is 356 degrees Fahrenheit (180 degrees Celsius) because European hair is fine and more easily damaged. If you keep your iron at 300-320 degrees Fahrenheit (150-160 degrees Celsius), you risk damage to your Follea hair.

  • Does Follea offer wigs for people with total or near-total hair loss?

Follea offers wigs specially made for those who have lost their hair due to alopecia, radiation or chemotherapy treatments, or other causes.
A specialized wig for total hair loss must not only be comfortable against sensitive skin, but it must also be durable enough to withstand the active lifestyles of all wearers, some of whom are athletes.
Several Follea designs meet these needs. We designed the Gripper™ Collection especially for this purpose.

  • Should I shave my head?

It is not required that you do this to wear Follea hair. There are many different base designs for a variety of attachments, including, but not limited to, microfiber grips, clips and combs. Many women with hair even integrate their own hairline into the front bangs for an even more natural look.

With Follea’s Gripper™, no hair is recommended, as the silicone panels work best when they adhere to the skin and may pull on existing hair if you are very active.

  • Can my regular stylist color my Follea hair?

Because hairstylists often lack the training or experience in working with fine European hair wigs and hairpieces, we strongly recommend you contact a Follea-certified stylist to maintain, cut and create special color effects for your Follea hair.
Follea’s 100% European human hair is known throughout the world for its superior hair quality. It can be colored, within reason, by a trained colorist. We only recommend you have your Follea hair colored by a Follea-certified stylist.

  • I wear a wig, and my scalp is very sensitive. What can I do?

We use superior hypoallergenic materials in our Follea products that are carefully sourced and selected for maximum quality. However, sometimes even the best materials can irritate very sensitive skin. One way to prevent this is to wear a wig liner made of a soft fabric with minimal seams.

If you are experiencing undue or visible skin irritation, extreme discomfort or rashes as a result of wearing a hair addition, consult your dermatologist before making another hair purchase.

We also offer a product with silicone-tab sections called The Gripper™. Silicone tabs offer a comparatively inert alternative to the polyurethane tabs commonly found in wigs.

  • I have Trichotillomania. What are my options?

Follea hair products are made with several kinds of bases for a variety of applications. For trichotillomania, we would recommend a full wig in either the Style or Chic cap.
If you would like to replicate a natural hairline, prefer volume or are interested in ponytails and up-dos, the Style is a fine choice. It comes standard with a small lace front edge, which can be worn off the face, without bangs. The lined, wefted soft-fit cap will contour to your head and is more durable than the hand-tied back on the Chic product. It is the most versatile of our wigs. You can find more details on pages 10-14 of our catalog.

Follea’s Chic wig closely replicates the look of a scalp, so it is virtually undetectable. It is recommended if you would like to integrate your front hairline or plan on wearing some kind of bang. It has a flatter top than the Style for a sleek look. The hand-tied back is very lightweight, though not as durable as the Style.
