FAQ
Questions Asked Before Buying
How do I know if I have an authentic Follea? The physical labels on our wigs include a long and unique serial number, printed in black on a transparent background. There have been several iterations of format for the codes on these labels, but they now all start with the letters “FL”. These special labels allow us to authenticate and trace all Follea pieces (unless these sewn-in labels are deliberately removed).
If you have any reason to doubt the authenticity of your Follea piece, please send an email to hair@follea.com with the serial number and any product information you can provide, and we will trace your serial number and confirm whether or not it was actually issued by Follea for the product you have described. An alternative is to take a high resolution photograph of the label and email it to us, also with a product description.
In either case, please include your contact details.
Follea Topette® hairpieces are crown extensions that are designed to add hair coverage, volume and length. They are most often used to restore a full head of hair for anyone who feels they don’t have enough hair density, for whatever reason. Follea also has customers who use them to protect their own hair from the frequent and stressful styling related to their work or lifestyle, and others who use them to achieve gorgeous and elaborate hairstyles that would be impossible to achieve without added hair.
The Topette® is also an essential part of the Topette® Crown Extension method, the only extension method specifically designed for women with thin or fine hair.
Essentially, the Topette® is a hairpiece positioned on the top of the head, similar to what are variously referred to as hairpieces, top pieces, toppers, postiches, and top hair, except that Follea has created a range of superior, application-specific designs that are the finest available.
Most people have measurements that are roughly the same as, or reasonably close to, our medium fitting size and find that our medium-sized wigs fit them quite comfortably.
For us, an important consideration in what we do and don’t stock is that we have a wide spectrum of radiant colors and dozens of styles available, and if we were to stock every wig option that we offer, in every size our inventory costs would end us.
Thus, Follea only stocks medium sizes of your favorite styles, and only in the most popular colors in the Aéro-2, Lifestyle-2 and Cannes Luxury-2 collections.
In the Gripper-2™ Collection we offer extra small, small and medium sizes due to the specialized needs for total and near-total hair loss.
Follea is established as the leader in next-generation European hair wigs and hairpieces. We are capable of providing special handling and fabrication of other kinds of hair, as we accept special orders using hair from many different ethnicities, but in our own Catalog Collections we use 100% European Remy Ponytail Hair. These collections are:
• Luxury Collection
• LifeStyle / LifeStyle2
• Aero / Aero-2
• Gripper® / Gripper®2
• Tres Chic
The hair we use to make our Aero & Gripper® hair is 100% European human Remy hair. Remy means cuticle-correct hair from ponytails. We gently remove layers of cuticle from the hair in-house in small batches, starting with European ponytail cuticle hair, and double drawn for consistent hair length.
We remove the cuticle so that hair can be hand-tied on lace. This process is also necessary to create our natural lace-front designs that do not require glue.
When we hand-knot the hair on lace we leave a return hair of about 4″ that gives more volume and natural height to the style. (Return hairs are the shorter of the two hair lengths created from the knot).
It is extremely important that we smooth the cuticle from these return hairs as the cuticle is naturally barbed and would cause matting and tangling if lying in opposing directions, even on top quality European hair.
This information may be new to those who were previously wearing machine-injected hairpieces they would not have returns.
Follea’s hair-processing methods are unique and proprietary and have nothing to do with the concept of “Processed Hair” as practiced on a large scale by volume manufacturers using low-cost hair. These processes involve acid baths in large vats, often with “swept-off-the-floor” hair.

Follea offers wigs specially made for those who lose their hair from alopecia, radiation or chemotherapy treatments or other causes.
A specialized wig for alopecia must not only be comfortable against sensitive skin but it must also be durable enough to withstand the active lifestyles of many of our alopecia wig wearers.
Several Follea designs meet these needs, depending on your preferences. We designed our Gripper-2® Collection especially for this purpose.
A specialized wig for someone losing hair due to radiation or chemotherapy must be both comfortable against sensitive skin and easy to maintain. While in some cases our alopecia wigs meet this need, we recommend shorter hairstyles and discourage bonding, to keep maintenance at an absolute minimum. Our silicone gripper caps fill this need perfectly, can be worn and removed easily, and keep their position exceptionally well.
Additional information on these needs is available in the hair loss section.

Styling & Wearing Questions
Do Follea wigs need to be styled before wearing? All human hair wigs and hairpieces need to be brushed out before wearing. They also tend to get flattened in transit, so they will need to be styled, and for first-time use, they will need to be trimmed or cut before wearing. We recommend that you have a hair stylist cut and style your Follea hair to suit your face and bone structure.
We consider our wig and hairpiece collections to be “semi pre-cut”, meaning that we use specifically chosen hair lengths known as “double-drawn”, unlike many wig companies that indiscriminately mix short and long hair (also known as single-drawn, a much cheaper manufacturing method). Follea’s methods produce hairpieces that require very little cutting and a far superior look for you!
If you want our help to personalize your Follea, we offer the option of having your wig pre-cut in our Beverly Hills boutique salon to match any of the many modern styles in our wig gallery; or you can send us a photo of the look you are trying to achieve, but we highly recommend that you do this BEFORE you select your wig so we can advise you as to the best wig to choose.
We use superior materials that are carefully sourced by us, specially selected for maximum quality. However, sometimes even the best materials can irritate sensitive skin. One way to prevent this is to wear a wig liner made of a soft fabric with minimal seams.
If you are experiencing undue or visible skin irritation, extreme discomfort, or rashes as a result of wearing a hair addition you should definitely consult your dermatologist about the problem before placing any more orders.
Please note that we do offer a product with silicone tab sections: the Gripper®. Silicone tabs offer a comparatively inert alternative to the polyurethane tabs common in wigs today. In fact, we have one person on staff with a polyurethane allergy that has experienced no problems wearing our silicone Grippers®. See our Amazing Gripper® page for more information.
Taking Care of Your Added Hair
Can my hairdresser color Follea hair?Because hairstylists often lack the training or experience working with fine European hair wigs and hairpieces, we strongly recommend Follea Certification for hairdressers wishing to maintain, cut and create special color effects with Follea hair. Follea’s 100% European human hair is known throughout the world for its hair quality. It can be colored, within reason, by a trained colorist. We only recommend colorists who have attended our own “4C Training”, specifically.
Not all of them. Salon products could damage the hair or harm the workmanship or materials of the wig. You might see tangling, dye coming out, fading, or knots loosening if you use the wrong products, which greatly reduces the lifespan of your wig. In particular, the most harmful products contain sulphates and parabens.
We recommend finding sulfate-free and paraben-free shampoo and conditioners. Use styling products sparingly and always make sure to wash them out completely.
While you can swim in your Follea wig, we do not recommend it.
Human hair becomes saturated with water during swimming and may get very heavy which can affect the secure fit of your wig.
