Ordering Custom Wigs and Added Hair

Ordering from Follea can be as simple as picking up a stock wig from one of our catalog lines or as complex as a total customization: color matching, matching formation, choosing virgin European hair or cuticle removed hair for bonding, fitting from a custom mold, and even a completely custom cap or base design. And here at Follea we have more than a moderate amount of experience in customization: in addition to our being founded by a second generation added hair entrepreneur, Follea has spent over a decade manufacturing for other top labels, customizing for top hair replacement specialists worldwide, and developing and perfecting our own designs.

And while we are only a manufacturer, because we do fill a tremendous number of custom wig and added hair orders every month, through the years we’ve learned a lot about how to order. So we’d like to share a little bit of the advice we’ve learned over the years.

Before Ordering

Before you are dazzled by the jargon and options available in ordering added hair you’re going to need to reflect on your own needs and expectations. While your hair replacement consultant can handle the assessment of your hair loss problem without too many questions, choices of system and attachment should also be guided by what you’re hoping for, what you can manage, and how you want to live.

First, you’ll need to show your consultant what you want and for this we suggest that you bring photographs of the look you hope to achieve, either an old picture of you with the hair you want or a picture with hair that you think you could reasonably achieve with an added hair system. The picture should be focused and the hairstyle clear—this is going to be crucial not only for the consultant who helps you to buy or order your hair, but also for us, the manufacturer. Considerations of hair formation and shape, and length, and even cap construction can be guided by this picture. Moreover, if your added hair consultant makes a mistake in their design specifications, our designers here may catch it when we look at the picture. We caution you, though, to never let anyone order your color from a photograph. Between the camera, the print, and the computer monitor, it’s just too easy to get the color wrong… so you’ll need to either choose color from a swatch, or send in a small sample.

Next, be prepared for questions about your lifestyle, or about the lifestyle expectations you will have after you begin using an added hair system. Understanding these needs and considering them alongside your hair loss assessment is a prerequisite for deciding the kind of added hair system and attachment method that is best for you.

You’ll be asked, for example, whether you lead an active life or whether you’re more of a couch potato, whether you spend a lot of time at home, in your office, or whether you go out often or even whether or not you travel. These consideration will determine whether you need a bonding system, a clip in piece, or possibly a silicone Gripper™ wig. Most importantly, you’ll need to prioritize budget, comfort, activity, and whether or not you want to sleep and shower in your added hair. The general rule is that the more active you plan to be, and the longer you’ll need to wear you added hair at one time, the more permanency you’ll need in your attachment methods.

Decisions to Make

If your added hair specialist hasn’t already walked you through your options, or at least through the options provided at their salon, we advise you to approach this problem with some flexibility. Solutions sometimes require that you give things up: water skiing, for example, is generally not a good idea with added hair, with those who use permanent hair extensions being an exception. All added hair requires maintenance and some added hair systems may require more frequent visits to the salon for adjustment or cleaning than others will. For proper upkeep of high quality European human hair wigs you may need to drop into a salon ever two to four weeks. Your added hair consultant can advise you on the best schedule for your type of added hair. With this in consideration, choosing an added hair specialist near your home or place of work may be advisable.

Getting Your Hair Addition

After you’ve ordered your added hair it may take anywhere from two to eight weeks to manufacture your piece depending on the size, the extent of customization, and whether or not you require a rush delivery. Please understand that making a rush product requires 24 hour manufacturing, so added costs are required to compensate artisans for off hour and overtime work.

Once you get your hair, final styling and minor adjustments can be completed at the hair replacement center where you ordered your wig, and then the work is done.

Still, it’s very important, unless you’re a veteran of added hair, that you don’t do all of your maintenance yourself. European natural hair wigs are a significant investment and require careful professional maintenance. Yes, you should certainly do your homework on caring for you hair, but once you’ve taken the time to find an expert whom you trust it’s best to let the experts do their job. For example: skin tops, or “French parts” as they’re often called, need to be washed very carefully so that they are not damaged. Replacing a French part can be quite expensive, so it’s worthwhile to avail yourself of the washing services offered at your friendly local hair replacement center. And Lace front human hair wigs may also require special maintenance and can be easily damaged. This also allows your local expert to check the wig regularly, as minor repairs and small adjustments are inevitably necessary to keep your added hair just right.

With that in mind, we hope you’re ready to jump in and get the hair you dream of.
